Spring is hands down my favorite time of the year. The most amazing things come from spring. If given my choice we would all pick up and move to Marin/Bodega where it feels like it is perpetually spring. In fact I believe (right or wrong, I care not) that all good things come from spring. Right now the good things that are coming from our home are flowers, lots and lots of flowers, all things strawberry and every kind of salad imaginable (one of the best parts of spring is that I get to force all kinds of vegetables on my family, they love it, I swear). Here a few of my favorite uses for strawberries: jam (I always add vanilla bean or champagne to my strawberry jam and I use a low sugar recipe so that flavor of the fruit shines), scones, muffins and one of my all time favorite salads.
Hopefully you can find something to revel in this spring. And if you are lucky it just might be strawberries!
I will be in Sebastapol this week picking up some heritage breeds of tomato. If you are interested message me here. There are 29 varieties, message me for the list or let me know what you are looking for and I will let you know what might be best for you. The cost will be $3 per plant.
Happy summer gardening!
We missed some really great things this weekend. That said we had a great Easter! We had friends for dinner, and we celebrated the birthday of two very special little girls, all while celebrating Easter with our family, too. To do this we had to say no to other things we were invited to do. Other things, that while good, have never been a great source of joy for our family. We had to say no to family commitments that would have left us tired and cranky from entire days spent in the car instead of with the ones we love. We had to say no to being in three different cities on the same day (all at the same time). And we had to set aside the guilt from saying no. We had to reclaim our holiday, our time and our life from the commitments so often imposed upon us due to tradition, expectation and circumstance.
We are far from perfect but we are, every day, finding little ways to reclaim our life to reflect our values. Sometimes that makes us unpopular, but at the end of the day, my goal is health and vitality for my family. And sometimes being vital means saying no.
Here's to saying no to overdone holidays fueled by guilt, worry and other people's approval. Pursue holidays that bring your family joy, purpose and tradition.
He is Risen! Happy Easter!

Everything is put through a filter before it gets to us these days. This will be a space where photos will be unfiltered, simple projects will be showcased and more difficult ones will not be portrayed as things that only took a few minutes. This will be a place where I show in photos and short posts some of the things that inspire my family and business. I hope that you will be inspired to try something different!
